Semaine Two (2): Top 5 (?) shows

1. Nofit State Circus (well, I have said it all below: buy, borrow (!) or steal a ticket: you will not regret it)

2. Ubu (yes, I know, I named it before, but I went to see it again - and still liked it!!)

3. Camille (French speaking chanteuse - absolute must-see: beautiful renditions of Jacques Brel's songs, amongst others - a wide vocal range (from low to high, sweet to vindictive, powerful to understated...) - a fabulous mise en scène - and a lovely looking (with a classy hint of depravity) lady: what more do you want?... Well, you want Camille to interpret Tom Waits' Blue Valentine! That's what you want. Or at least that's what I want...)

4. Breath[e] (experiment based on Beckett's 30 seconds play Breath - I really loved it because of all the interpretations one can pin onto it;- my friend Sandrine fell asleep because she felt relaxed; - my husband was dead bored because it was so slow; - and the fourth one in our party was clearly uncomfortable because of the heartbeat. To elicit such a range of reactions means the show is already a success!)

5. hum, I should really put in Bicycle Men because of the controversy (see below)... But I won't ! So, no number 5 for week 2...

So in fact it should be a top 4 and not a top 5... Hum, time to go to bed, I think!

Wow, I didn't know Camille O'Sullivan was doing a show this year. She has the most fantastic voice and stage presence. I first saw her about three years ago in a show at the Project in Dublin directed by a friend, a multimedia dance piece called "The Murder Ballads" with Camille singing Tom Waits and Nick Cave songs while climbing the walls of the theatre, (and sitting in my lap at one point!) I've seen her a few times since (including last year's fringe) and never failed to be stunned.

Yes, she's pretty fantastic!! We were very pleasantly surprised, as a lot of care obviously went into the design of the show (unlike, sadly, the Tiger Lillies, whom we saw last night and frankly paled in comparison, but that's a different story, and I will explore the darker side of my 'reviewing skills' a bit later on....)
