From Rousseau to Carmen

SATURDAY 5 November: De Battre mon coeur s'est arrêté - 9pm (£5.80)
Superb remake of 1978 thriller 'Fingers' - One of the best French films of the year, according to The List.
Not to missed, if you've not caught it before during the Edinburgh Film Festival

Gala in aid of Médecins sans Frontières: arguably not particularly French, but thought I would mention it anyway...

SATURDAY 5 November: Fish Fry with Diwan - 11pm-03am (£5.00)
Senegalese singer Samba Sene leads this band for a musical extravaganza: not to be missed! (Lyrics are in English, French and Wolof.)

SUNDAY 6 November: Ma nuit chez Maud - 6pm (£5.20/£3.70)
One of the famous "Contes Moraux" by Eric Rohmer. In French with English subtitles.

TUESDAY 8 November : Lunchtime Concert - 1.10pm (FREE)
The Samphire Ensemble present works by Ravel, Debussy and Demase.

WEDNESDAY 9 November : Carmen - 7.30pm (£6-£33.50)
Bizet's passionate opera: in French with english surtitles.

NB: This show is on 8, 9 & 11 - 12 November at 7:30pm (Nabucco, sung in Italian with English Surtitles, is performed on the 10 Nov at 7:30pm). In case you miss it, you can still catch up with it in Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall next week.

FRIDAY 11 November: In the Spirit of Rousseau: Ian Hamilton Finlay and The Philosopher's Garden Location - 1.30pm-5.30pm (£6.00)
Various speakers will explore the themes inherent to the exhibition The Philosopher's Garden (Scottish National Portrait Gallery, 24 September - 20 November 2005).
The afternoon's study will be followed by a wine reception at the Portrait Gallery (6-7.30pm). >> More information here

De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté is a very good film, and although I don't like Romain Duris, he is really good in that.

Salut,
ca fait plaisir d'entendre parler de francais qui ont vecu en Ecosse. Ton commentaire (yozine.net) me fait plaisir.

En fait, je suis chez ma tante et mon oncle a Aberdeen. J'y retourne dans 10 jours pour continuer a chercher du boulot, jusqu'a Noel.

Yohan - Bon courage pour trouver un job: j'espère que tu passeras du bon temps à Aberdeen - j'avais personnellement adoré! (et puis d'ailleurs, merci pour les groupes que tu cites sur ton site: ils ont l'air pas mal du tout, et je ne les connaissais pas!)
