Ma vie est un enfer - well not quite...
Things have been fairly busy round my Franco-Scottish household these past couple of weeks - first I was asked to take part in jury duty - I am not even British (yet!!! hahaha) - then I managed to avoid it (can't understand spoken English) - then I got trapped into far too much translation work - then I had 8 lovely people over for lunch last Sunday and for a mad Trivial Pursuit (yep, that wrecked my whole week all right: just did not want to go to work on Monday - my only consolation is : it probably destroyed the others' week as well!! HA, triple HA!) (oh, and also I am just rubbish at that Trivial Pursuit game!!! - though it was quite funny to see how people's behaviours changed - not necessarily for the better but, let's say, for the more... competitive...) (yep, you know who you are!) - then last week was reasonably mad with loads of new students starting, well you guessed it, new courses... Woohoo.
Oh, and my broadband connection packed in during the week-end... An opportunity to do no work (well, I couldn't, could I?) and to go instead to the cinema to see Wallace et Gromit et le Lapin-Garou. Most excellent, if you want my opinion! Beats technical translation any day!!
Anyway, all this to say this is the reason why I have not updated this blog for ages!! Back now...
Maybe...

Wasn't the fact that you weren't British enough to "dismiss" you?
Nope. Not at all. And not the fact that I am self-employed either... (I really need to tell the tale about this, as it really deserves a complete post...) (but then maybe after the extent of my subterfuge has been discovered I will be called upon again.) SIGH.
Lise - its really a pity that you weren't able to accept. One of the problems with juries is that too many middle class folk get themselves out of it so they are no longer representative of the public at large.
Robin,
Had I an employer who was able to pay for my time on the jury, I would have done it.
The "compensation" provided by the court was not substantial enough to cover my losses - not just my losses in earning but my losses in potential business...
I am surprised that I was called upon as a foreigner in the first instance, when I do not even vote for the general elections...
By the by, I know quite a few middle class people who would love to be on a jury, as their employer would cover their salary while they are on jury duty!
;-)
