Post-beginner French Evening Class - Summary 6

Last Monday, we started by re-reading the sentences from the previous week. Then we translated some sentences into English and we had a few discussions. Then we listened to a song, Si j'avais un marteau: it was a good opportunity to discover the "conditional" (would in english)... and then we practised it with some questions!

Vocabulaire:

S'ils étaient coincés dans un ascenseur avec Gordon Brown, Emily se cacherait et Scott lui demanderait où sont les armes de destruction massive.

S'ils trouvaient un chèque en blanc signé dans la rue, Terry le mettrait dans sa poche et John le porterait au commissariat de police.

S'ils gagnaient beaucoup d'argent à Who wants to be a millionaire, Emma voyagerait longtemps et Scott achèterait un grand bateau à moteur.

Si elles étaient Président de la République Française, Emily donnerait plus d'argent à tout le monde et Terry donnerait plus de vacances aux gens.

Near future:

ALLER + verbe = be going to + verb

Exemple:

Je vais prendre un café: I am going to have a coffee

Nous allons manger au restaurant: We are going to eat in a restaurant

Devoirs:

1) Read out the sentences above and check you know what they mean.

2) Make 3 questions beginning with "que feriez-vous si....". Answer them, and put them in the "tu" form.

3) Translate the sentences from the "A la chasse aux mots" document

4) Listen to the song again!
